Jasminum officinale

Jasmine has a beautiful fragrance and the rose-like buds are prized for their beauty.  Jasmine boosts medicinal properties like antioxidant, stress relief, anti-inflammatory and improved immunity.  Tincture the buds to produce perfume, decorate with them or try adding to tea blends.

Try this potpourri recipe to naturally perfume your room or put into sachets and put in your drawers.

100g Rose Petals or buds
50g Jasmine Flowers
1 tablespoon of Green Cardamom Pods (crushed)
2 tablespoons Coriander Seeds (crushed)
1 tablespoon of Juniper Berries (crushed)
1-2 teaspoons of Orris Root Powder
Can add essential oils of either Ylang Ylang, Patchouli or Jasmine (5 drops).

• Mix the dried flowers and the powder in a large mixing bowl, preferably not plastic.
• Slightly crush the hard spices/herbs/pods by either using a mortar and pestle or place in a paper bag on a chopping board and a hit with a rolling pin or hammer.
• Add these to the mixture and mix around well with your fingers.
• Add the essential oils if you feel they are necessary - one drop at a time is best and then mix. Too much can spoil the blend.
• Seal the mixture in an airtight container and store your potpourri for one month before use.  Give it a shake occasionally.
• Once it has rested for the month it is ready to use.  If you want the scent to be stronger just add a little more essential oil.
